The 6 hours of mandatory observation:
In addition to 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, State of Illinois requires students ages 15-17 to have “in car observation” which includes learning by observing other student driver progress. The 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction and observation may be exchange for 8 hours of private behind-the-wheel instruction (advanced course).
The 30 hours of classroom instruction are divided into 15 two-hour sessions. Days and times may vary. In the second week, students will be taken to The Office of Secretary of State to take Instruction Permit Test. Once the student receives his/her Permit, he/she will be scheduled for a behind the wheel instruction and observation (basic course) time. Behind the wheel instructions are scheduled to suit the student’s convenience and include free picku-up and drop off at the student’s house, school or work (up to 3 miles radius from the driving school). After completing the course we will immediately certify our students with the Secretary of State, and give Auto Metro Driving School Certification of Completion which is used toward high school graduation requirements.
